Spotlight Series: Josue Peralta Del Carpio

I'm a young entrepreneur under 30, originally from Lima, Peru, with Argentinian roots. Today, I'm the founder and owner of Culturas, a fine dining restaurant located in the heart of the Social District in Downtown Los Angeles. Culturas was born with a clear vision – to break the mold and bring something truly different to the DTLA culinary scene. Culturas is not just a restaurant. It's a statement—of roots, of evolution, and of what happens when young talent meets real purpose.
I studied law and business administration, but chose to leave the traditional path behind to follow my true passion—hospitality, culinary artistry, and innovation. I firmly believe that youth is not a weakness, but a competitive advantage when paired with discipline, vision, and authenticity.
Los Angeles has many diverse neighborhoods, and you've chosen to invest here. Why the Social District?
Los Angeles is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own rhythm, energy, and identity. I chose to invest in the Social District - specifically South Park in Downtown LA - because it represents everything that excites me about this city's future. This area is a crossroads of culture, innovation, and possibility. It brings together locals, creatives, professionals, and travelers in one dynamic space. There's a raw energy here - a sense that something is being rebuilt, reimagined. That's exactly the kind of environment where a concept like Culturas can thrive. I didn't want to follow the path already paved - I wanted to help shape a new one. The Social District isn't just a location. It's a statement: that Downtown LA is back, and it's being redefined by a new generation with fresh ideas, global roots, and a deep love for this city.
When you're not working, what do you love to do in the Social District?
Engage with local neighborhoods, walk alone during the night to observe the city lights.
Looking ahead, what is your vision for the future of The Social District in the next 5-10 years? What are your hopes and aspirations for the community?
I see the Social District evolving into one of the most vibrant, culturally rich, and inclusive neighborhoods in all of Los Angeles - not just known for its buildings or events, but for its soul.
In the next 5-10 years, I envision a thriving community where creativity, food, art, music, and entrepreneurship intersect organically. A place where local businesses - especially those led by young, diverse voices - are not only surviving, but setting the standard. I hope to see the Social District become a model for how urban development and authentic culture can grow hand in hand.
My aspiration is to help build that future by contributing through Culturas, not just as a restaurant, but as a cultural hub - a space that connects people, celebrates heritage, and champions innovation.
Ultimately, I want the Social District to be a place where people don't just come to visit - they come to feel
inspired, to belong, and to dream big. And I hope to be part of the generation that made that possible.
How are you a part of shaping the future ofThe Social District?
I'm shaping the future of the Social District by building something with purpose, not just presence. Through Culturas, I'm introducing a space that blends high-end dining with cultural storytelling, where Latin American roots meet modern innovation. It's not just about food — it's about identity,
community, and pushing boundaries.
As one of the youngest entrepreneurs in DTLA, I'm bringing a fresh perspective - one that says you don't have to wait until you're 40 to lead, to create, or to make an impact. I'm showing that young voices matter, that we have the discipline, vision, and creativity to help define what comes next.
I collaborate with local artists, work with diverse suppliers, and create opportunities for others to grow alongside me. My goal is to set a new standard for what a modern restaurant can be: inclusive, inspiring, and deeply connected to its community. Being part of the Social District's future means not just existing here, but investing in its growth - culturally, socially, and economically.
The Social District hosts a lot of events, from awards shows to sporting events to concerts. What's an event you'd want front row seats to attend and where in The Social District would you go before or after
the big event?
