Los Angeles has many diverse neighborhoods, and you’ve chosen to invest here. Why The Social District?
South Park is very much the heart of downtown Los Angeles and it reflects the dynamic vibrancy of other diverse communities I've lived in. Having been born and raised in the Bronx, South Park reminds me of the intersection of various cultures, languages, people and history. California Hospital is one of the city's oldest hospitals still in operation, and is one of the largest employers in South Park.
When you’re not working, what do you love to do in The Social District?
I love meeting up with colleagues or friends for coffee or a great meal at a local restaurant. And since sneakers are my footwear of choice, it's great to have so many options within walking distance of California Hospital!
Looking ahead, what is your vision for the future of The Social District in the next 5-10 years? What are your hopes and aspirations for the community?
My goal is to create the healthiest Los Angeles possible, for all Angelenos. Health equity is very important to me and I will continue to advocate for all Angelenos to live their healthiest lives, especially those who are the most vulnerable. My hope is for South Park to be a place where every individual has access to the resources, environment, and support to be well in body, mind, and spirit.
How are you a part of shaping the future of The Social District?
As President and CEO of Dignity Health - California Hospital Medical Center, it's my duty to provide the best care possible for anyone who walks through the hospital's doors. It's also my duty to make the hospital the best place to work and I'm committed to supporting our very diverse workforce, making sure they have the resources they need to provide exceptional care to every patient.
We are shaping the future of South Park through our $215 million campus expansion opening in 2024 and in programs such as the Hope Street Margolis Family Center, which supports 5,000 low-income children and parents annually with education, literacy, recreation, and wellness services. As health care continues to focus more on prevention and wellness, we are committed as a hospital to being leaders in this space for all of our neighbors in South Park and beyond.
The Social District hosts a lot of events, from awards shows to sporting events to concerts. What’s an event you’d want front row seats to attend and where in The Social District would you go before or after the big event?
I love music and dancing, so any live musical performance that makes me want to get up and dance would be at the top of my list. I'm also an introvert, so to cap off a big night, I'd probably head to a quiet roof-top restaurant to wind down.
