Spotlight Series: Pico, Canine Experience Office

Category Spotlight Series

My career as Canine Experience Officer was never what I had envisioned. The ambassadors that took me in showed me the ropes of the district and I loved my new "Home" – much better than that barely shaded triangle at Pico and Olive I started at. When I learned the ropes of the work the Ambassadors do, I realized how many other canines there are out there walking their peoples. I realized that the other canines have to get better about not leaving a mess and make sure they know where to make a mess so it doesn't kill the beautiful roses. Making sure the barklets are tidy and the word gets out about cleaning up after yourself are just some of the services I tout.

Los Angeles has many diverse neighborhoods, and you've chosen to invest here. Why The Social District?

I kind of just ended up here. I had my choice of anywhere in the world and this is where I decided to stay, much like all of the residents who also call this place home. I can't imagine living anywhere else.

When you're not working, what do you love to do in the Social District?

l love stopping to smell the roses, and making sure if I see any others doing more than smell the roses that they put their rear leg back down and keep it moving. That's part of my work, but it doesn't feel like work. What's that quote? "Choose a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life"? That's how I feel about keeping the other dogs in order along these great streets.

Looking ahead, what is your vision for the future of The Social District in the next 5-10 years? What are your hopes and aspirations for the community?

I envision a space, or a few spaces, where I can run around without a leash and play with my friends and neighbors. I hear the team working on this and am excited by the plans they're putting together. More green spaces to play and trees to rest under and shade to soak up would be
delightful!

How are you a part of shaping the future of The Social District?

Well, I have to make sure we don't all end up waist-high in waste. Dog waste that is. Our ambassadors are in charge of the other kinds. I don't know how to get through to some of the neighbors though, because they seem to not care about the dog waste out here. I can only spread so much awareness so if you could help me out, that would be great! I also have been trying to get my neighbors to stop and smell the roses. Only SMELLING the roses. I don't think you all realize how toxic our waste is! Have you seen some of the rose bushes? They're only dying because of our dog waste. So please help me out here and when you see that back leg start to lift at a rose bush, tell them to do so in the dirt!

The Social District hosts a lot of events, from awards shows to sporting events to concerts. What's an event you'd want front row seats to attend and where in The Social District would you go before or after
the big event?

I'm not big event kinda pup, but I love going to Lazy Dog at LA Live - their dog meals are my favorite!
